- The ViewPoint | Week 7 - Hudsonville (6-0) VS Muskgon (6-0) - ROUND ONE 7:0
| |
|
Overall Views:
Scenario One: Hudsonville uses the same game plan they used against Rockford and continues to run, run, run, and shows no balance with the passing game. Final Score: Hudsonville 14 - Muskegon 35 or more Scenario Two: Hudsonville uses a balanced attack like they did against TC West and East Kentwood. The run setting up the pass and the pass setting up the run. In the end however, Hudsonvilles lack of passing the ball in other games will finally catch up to them, as an under developed passing attack won't muster enough points against a potent Muskegon defense. Had the game plan been diffrent earlier in the year, Hudsonville may have had a fighting shot with a developed passing game. Final Score: Hudsonville 28 - Muskegon 35 |

- Offensive Pros & Cons
- Defensive Pros & Cons
Offensive Pros:
Jordan Jonker: Continues to run hard, and didn't put the ball on the ground this week. Alex Debniack: Had a great game, running through people along with catching a deep ball, his three touchdown performance was specatular. Casey Blackport: Starting to be utilized and is developing some rhythm. He has so far been making good decisions and moving the chains, despite numerous dropped passes by his receivers. The Offensive line did a fair job run blocking and a better job pass blocking.
Offensive Cons:
Game Plan: With a strong ground game, Hudsonville needs to use the play action theory. The fact that they throw out of obvious throwing formations and run out of obvious running formations really doubs down what could be a solid offensive attack. They also need to come out in formations featuring more then just two receivers in passing situations, giving the defense a 6 on 4 advantage. PT 2. The receivers. This group fails to create "seperation" and often no one is open when Blackport hits the back of his drop. They also have shown a tendancey to drop passes, and run below average routes. This area will have be cleaned up for any chance against Muskegon, perhaps getting a receivers coach into the program would help. The athletes are talented - they just need to be coached up.
Defensive Pros:
The linebacking core showed exactly why it is one of the top three in the Red friday night. Flying to the ball, closing the flats, intercepting passes. They will have their hands full this week though, as they'll see one of the biggest offensive lines, quickest receiving cores, fastest dual threat quarterbacks, and most complete back fields in the state friday night.
Defensive Cons:
The secondary is starting to show some promise, but for the most part is lucky they have linebackers who can drop and cover. Corner play must improve for the Eagles to have a chance at stopping Corey Johnson and company.

- Offensive Pros & Cons
- Defensive Pros & Cons
Offensive Pros:
Led behind the senior play of Chris Crawford, this high octane offense can hit you with both the run and pass. Corey Johnson is the typical D1 type athlete with speed and size to burn, add in the Muskegon backfield and one of the largest most explosive offensive lines in the state, and it's not hard to see why the Muskegon offense puts up points on Friday night.
Offensive Cons:
Muskegon put the ball on the ground a lot friday against Grandville. That said, they still won by a large margin. Most offensive units couldn't overcome the misakes they made against Grandville, this team not only overcame them, but did so with plenty of breathing room.
Defensive Pros:
A solid group of verterans who know how to get the job done. They are big, fast, and they can hit. Look for Crosby and Co Jo to bring heat all night long, and disrupt the backfield play and get after Blackport.
Defensive Cons:

Overall Views:
The game will be a bit closer but the Big Reds are just too good to run against. Unless the passing game suddenly comes to life this week, the Big Reds will pull away late to win 35-14. |

- Offensive Pros & Cons
- Defensive Pros & Cons
Offensive Pros:
Their offensive line is huge and massive. Johnson is an amazing WR who can take it to the barn every play. Crawford burned Hudsonville big time the last time these two teams played.
Offensive Cons:
They tend to turn the ball over way too often. I believe that sometimes they don't give their best effort and think they can win the game by just showing up.
Defensive Pros:
They are good at stopping the run and if given the chance will hit extremely hard. Their defensive line is huge and fast. Their LB's are good and Johnson is a shut down defensive back.
Defensive Cons:
They can give up some really big plays against the pass.

- Offensive Pros & Cons
- Defensive Pros & Cons
Offensive Pros:
We know who the big two are for this team: Jonker and Debniak. However, these other young men are also great weapons who need to be used more: Walcott, Keur, Blackport.
Offensive Cons:
Lack of blance and a stubborn game plan that refuses to throw the ball around at all. Will it haunt Hudsonville this week? I have a feeling it will. Instead of playing and developing Walcott and Keur at WR, the stubborn coaching staff has played Drew Dunbar because he's on the baseball team. Quinn Trevino has the talent to be a good WR next year, but he's not there yet.
Defensive Pros:
Alex Debniack is a two-way stud. He dominated the game from the defensive line posistion and is quite simply the best defensive lineman I have ever seen at Hudsonville in six years of following Hudsonville football. The Linebackers are fast and all over the field. Jordan Jonker had a solid game at LB and Trevor Lucas had an excellant game at his LB spots. I thought Josh Bakker had a solid game on the line. The team is quick and fast all over the field. I saw several plays where guys from hudsonville were in the backfield quite a bit. The front seven make this defense go. When they are on their game, Hudsonville will be very tough to score against.
Defensive Cons:
Small when compared to the huge Big Red line, and not nearly as quick or fast. This isn't to say this defense isn't good, it's just running up against a full blown powerhouse this week.
